Miss
Danni, as she is known by her students, has been teaching dance in the
Hamilton area for over 20 years. Being a very shy child, her parents enrolled her
in dancing at the ago of 4 to build up her confidence and she has been
dancing ever since. She has had extensive training in ballet, jazz, tap,
modern, highland, hip hop, musical theatre and various kinds of ethnic
dancing. Miss Danni has studied dance at Ryerson University under such
illustrious teachers as Nadia Potts (former principal dancer with the
National Ballet), Stelio Calagias, Vicki St. Denys, Audrey Locher, Flora
Lojekova (former principal dancer with the Kirov Ballet) and Karen Duplisea
(Toronto Dance Theatre). She has performed in shows choreographed by Malcolm
Gale, Timothy Spain (Royal Winnipeg Ballet), and Vicki St. Denys as a
soloist and Dance Captain.
While at Ryerson, Miss Danni was also fortunate to have been selected as one
of six dancers to perform in "Ten Lost Years" which was directed by Keith
Batten, who is well known for being the executive producer of the successful
run of "Miss Saigon" and "Les Misérables" (touring). Some other highlights
include performing in "Sweet Charity", directed by John Sharpe (assistant
choreographer for Bob Fosse) and an award-winning performance for "Jerry's
Girls".
Miss Danni has participated in over 500 live performances with her dancing
and garnered many awards during her career. One of the most memorable
accolades was being one of only three Ontario students awarded the Ann Watts
Memorial Scholarship through the Sears Drama Festival in high school.
While dancing has always been Miss Danni's passion, she is also a fully
certified aerobics instructor and personal trainer. She was a manager for
several prominent fitness centres before taking over from Marilyn Szwec at
the studio.
Miss Danni believes that everyone can benefit from dancing. Not only are
there physical rewards, but increased confidence, self-esteem and life
lessons can be obtained from a dance education. Having two sons of her own,
she realizes the importance of extra-curricular activities for children and
adults. Not only is the studio a spot to have fun but it is also a place
where you can become skilled at dealing with others while learning to
believe in yourself and your abilities.
